I had the opposite experience on trains in Italy in the mid-90s. Nothing negative at all with the people who I shared compartments with. In fact, they were often very generous, offering their snacks to me more than once.

Inland Empire is the only Lynch movie I haven’t seen yet. I bought the DVD though, and tried to get it started sometime last year, but shelved it not too far in, partly because I was turned off by the cheap video look. Now I’m just going to wait for this 4K release, particularly because the film grain being added…
