I’d say you’ve seen the best the show has to offer in those first few episodes and you’re not losing out for having bailed early. At this point I just want to see how it wraps up.

The French series on Netlfix, Marianne, attempted to recreate that scene (different setting though). It didn’t work so well.
I really like Ed Flanders in that movie, too.
I actually have only seen up through the 7th episode, so I cannot comment on the balance, but I did like them all up until that point. That said, I thought they were all roughly of the same quality, so I’m not sure other episodes will improve your opinion of the series.

I’m of the opinion that the 1408 film adaptation is one of the best King adaptations.
