    I mean, just so we’re clear, I would never dream of tuning *MY* 335d’s ECU because it’s perfect just the way BMW made it, but I understand how other people would. . .

    It doesn’t mean the ICE manufacturers aren’t any less active about it.  BMW’s diagnostic software now looks for aftermarket ECU tunes for presumably the same reasons.

    Amen on all counts - from the old 3000gt/Stealth email community in the late 90s to the BMW Diesel FB group - my bacon has been saved many times by people I’ve never met.

    Overweight & underpowered. Goofy ergonomics & worse aesthetics. Not sporty enough to sportbike and not Harley enough to cruise. A used helmet, especially one that almost certainly hit its expiration date a decade ago?  

    It’s not going to be fast, handle well, or be comfortable for more than an hour or so - dirtshit styling aside (no accounting for individual taste), any bike worth having has to do at least one of those things. This thing is essentially midlife crisis butt jewelry.

    CP 8 days a week; don’t spend $4,500 to spend the next few years wishing you’d found a twin-turbo model.

    Sometimes you have to cede the day to the car/truck/motorcycle/whatever, and give it a few hours to think about what it’s done.

    My 335d was throwing a lot of codes, so I did some light exhaust work & sent the ECU out for some straightening out, and now it does fun things (without throwing CELs). It needs a few things to be perfect, so I expect it will spend a lot of time on the Quickjack through the fall.

    NP. . . if it comes with an M57 & associated running gear.

    Destined to be bought for $18K after it gets dusty on the lot. The new owner will be inwardly underwhelmed, but shout “But it’s RWD!” to anyone who’ll listen to hide his Dockers-and-loafers shame.

    My dad drove a Georgia State Patrol notchback 5.0 for several years; it was a great little car, though the automatic transmission was geared really oddly.  Even with a million great memories of it, the nostalgia isn’t enough to justify $25K.  CP

    I was at a motorcycle trackday at Jennings a few years ago, and a dude pitted across from me was on a turbo GSXR1000. It looked like a handful. After lunch, he came over to ask me about the race line or something, and mentioned that the bike was for sale.

    Thanks! They had been banging bars for a few laps, so I had a good idea that it was coming. Also, having a few Herrin Compound laps under my belt, I knew that turn is a great place to highside your face off.
