Some great ideas here. Another approach to distraction — especially if you find activism too daunting — is to practice kindness. Find a way to help someone nearby, or you local community. It’s an absorbing diversion and will likely increase your overall happiness.

The director has pretty much confirmed that the family in The Witch were suffering from ergot poisoning, meaning the ending was a hallucination. As a nerd who did their Bachelor’s thesis on ergot poisoning, it was cool to see that represented in film.

I 100% agree with you. I’m a progressive atheist in a very red Christian state. You’re preaching to the choir, so to speak. The outrage isn’t going to solve the problem, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. The more people are aware of these spineless cowards in their midst, the better.
