Yeah, their degree of influence is definitely disturbing and pretty unlikely to change in the future (sadly).

Seriously, do you think all the women in Texas just shut up and stay indoors? Unless you know what's actually going on in the state - maybe you should keep quiet on the matter. Thank you for your oh so wise words, clearly us Texan women have NEVER opened our mouths or marched on these issues.
Texas has NEVER tried to teach creationism in public school - yet. Rick Perry was dead wrong when he stated that - the Texas Board of Education has been trying to push for things that call into question the validity of evolution into the curriculum but it is presently not there. Almost every state out there you can…
The camera always lies! That's why some people are considered photogenic and some aren't!
I'm totally with you on this... at 25, I'm well aware that I'm considered to be very pretty by many and I definitely feel like I am most days. But, back in high school I was made fun of a lot because I was (and still am) really, really weird. I was nerdy, hyperactive, a total theater geek, always did well in classes,…
I think this comes down to issues in self efficacy vs. self esteem... I've known multiple girls who were into sports and martial arts that still have esteem issues, but they have very high self efficacy. I honestly believe talking it out with a therapist would be more helpful for many that Krav Maga or learning a…
Just because they learn it doesn't mean squat. Medical doctors, pharmacists, dentists, etc... are learning a trade. They may have had a class, it doesn't mean they thought critically about it or were able to see past their own personal/religious biases. I know people who are adamantly against evolution with degrees in…
Crazy comes from all places, acting like the problem is ONLY further west just reinforces the dislike of the original colonies (in particular New England) that many of us come up with - even when we come from liberal families. It's not like the current state of the US was guided only by hands from the original 13...…
Don't forget, Rick Santorum was from PA!
They do, cases of Rh disease are extremely rare in countries where RhoGAM is commonly used. I think the case of this story is extremely rare - especially among those women who have proper access to prenatal care. RhoGAM isn't cheap, on the billing I've received previously I believe it's around $175 US per shot without…
Yeah, haha, I looked it up some time yesterday and that sounds right to me.
Obesity is a tricky issue, many practitioners (like many people in general) do have a bias against obese individuals... but, obesity is considered to be associated with many health related issues - while not every obese individual may develop these problems, they're still at higher risk. I do believe that the…
Curious, what kind of surgery did you have?
The study they mention has a much smaller sample size of average weighted individuals compared with overweight individuals, and is very often criticized. Many epidemiological studies are blown out of proportion by the media and both of the ones mentioned here are prime examples of things being taken out of context by…
I'm a graduate student at the top institution for metabolism research in the United States... I've seen multiple nobel laureates present their research and have taken many courses concerning this subject matter - and I'd like to say - show me YOUR proof.
I think the perception there's a racial connotation comes from that scene in American History X... but otherwise, I agree with ikaiyoo, it's really just a cold thing to do.
I don't quite get it either... both of them seem to be kind of pigeon-holing children into stereotypes... whereas previous mentions of this story talk about how legos shifted from a gender neutral brand into a gendered brand and are now trying to widen their market by introducing a "girls line" in addition to their…
Thanks for the info! I really haven't looked to much into them, the ad still seems a little silly to me focusing on the cooking/shopping aspect... but I don't see anything too horrible what all you've presented.
Yeah, I'm not exactly clear here either... children are pretty good at expressing what they do and do not want - really my issue is when things are FORCED on a child. Though, I do kind of eye roll that the girls one had to involve cooking and shopping.
Yeah, I don't believe you can have this issue with a chemical pregnancy (a very early miscarriage, usually not noticed unless actively taking pregnancy tests)... so I wouldn't be concerned. I'd imagine the fetus would need to be producing RBC which is 6-7 weeks gestational age.
