I bought it already swapped with a crate motor. They only offered the 305.

They did, but I was on a wait list to get in there. Initially they only received parts to do a dozen cars. They replaced all four latches.

It's at least 1000 times more interesting than the van. Which is saying very little. 

I just had that recall done on Wednesday.  

My local dealership doesn’t even know when they will have the parts for it.  

I certainly wouldn’t let the seat belt recall stop me from buying a Volvo. It’s not a big issue.

That's all together possible too. Whatever the root cause, I think it's silly that you need a ladder to load the bed. 

The problem for me is that tastes have changed in contrast to convenience.  It is now harder to use the vehicle for it’s intended purpose.  And that’s dumb.

Everyone thinks you need a truck that is high off the ground. At one point I owned an El Camino and a 1985 Nissan 720 that was lowered 3 inches. It’s so nice to just be able to step into the bed instead of erecting the jungle gym from the tailgate to climb up in there.

As the owner of a 1987 El Camino, I want this to be worth $12,000. It is not. If the body is nice and rust free I’d say this is more like a $4000 car. I’ll happily sell mine for $12,000! It has a fuel injected 350 and will light up one wheel for as long as you want.

I have to agree. I am 20-some years out of college, but the realization that the whole thing was nothing more than a money grab really was disappointing. And I was at a small liberal arts school in Ohio. Even (or maybe more so?) on a small campus you are little more than a dollar sign to those outside the classrooms.

I just don’t see it happening. He is a hack. This is an instance where, since he is not in Michigan, hacking shit together so it is “good enough”will just not suffice. The TUV inspection and emissions inspection are notoriously difficult to pass, especially in a 25 year old American van with a leaky diesel engine.

Looks like the hardest part of that repair would be putting a flap disk on the grinder.  Grind the paint and rust back and weld it back up. There is no reason any capable welder can’t get it back together for cheap.

The problem with this is that the tires can look fine on the outside and be fucked on the inside. Tires are the most important part of the car, bar none. They impart every single force to the ground. 7 years is plenty.
