"Umpires mistakes directly affect the outcome of the game." Unless I misinterpreted that, you also mean that to apply to this instance.

Aww, look, you can use two-syllable words. Ain't that precious, especially since you can't count that high.

I know that this concept might be a bit complex for your mush brain to handle, but there are actually rules that govern conduct toward umpires, and umpires actually enforce those rules like they would any others. What you see as arrogance, is actually enforcement of a rule.

How is Randazzo "injecting himself" into the game? 1- the game is over. 2- if you are an asshole in disputing a call (as Aviles was), you're ejected. The umpire is enforcing a rule, and if you consider that "injecting himself" into the game, then we may as well turn MLB into a giant game of Calvinball. 3- I don't

You're probably right, but that's what happens when you read deadspin at 11pm after a few libations, and take exception to an article. Lesson learned? Nah, probably not.

Nowhere did I say he didn't miss the call. Watching it from the angle behind the play, I can see why he would have thought the batter fouled it off. Fine, he missed it, so his percentage of correct calls for the night goes down to 98%. It happens.

Funny how most people complaining about the umpiring have never umpired a game at any level in their lifetime. Pretty sure you wankers wouldn't last two innings working a little league game.

In an ideal world, the umpire should have been completely aware - but if you look at the original angle of the play, Nelson has already turned his back and walked away from the play before the first baseman gets off the ground. Even if it were the first baseman who caught the throw, Nelson's nonchalance about the

Pardon me while I get technical for a moment...

This only covers misapplication of rules, since it is a job prerequisite that all umpires be 100% certain of the rules and interpretations. They ARE the only line of defense on the field regarding the rule book. Judgment calls are another matter entirely, though if an umpire shows a trend of poor judgment on close

I brought this up in the original post about the mistake, but it bears repeating: as a minor league umpire, if a ruling is protested and upheld, the ruling umpire is fired. A colleague of mine put it best: "The minor leagues are not looking for reasons to keep umpires - they are looking for reasons to fire them." I

Culbreth has been suspended for two games, and the entire crew has been fined an undisclosed amount, per MLB.

A couple years ago, I was in NY over Columbus Day weekend, and wanted to catch a hockey game. The Rangers weren't in town, so my options were the Devils or the Islanders. I chose the Islanders, even though the trek down the LIRR and the subsequent bus ride through Freeport and Hempstead into Uniondale was sketchy to

According to friends who are current or former pro umpires, if a minor league umpire has a protest filed against his ruling, and the protest is upheld, he is fired on the spot. I don't know if this extends to the major league level as well, but this is too egregious a mistake to not be addressed by the higher-ups.

The school of thought that says Joyce should not have admitted he was incorrect is decidedly an old school of thought and is, slowly but surely, going away. Unfortunately, while the old school of thought still exists, it will reflect poorly on all umpires on all levels.

Interesting situation unfolding in Houston: Astros were allowed a second reliever without first reliever facing one batter. Angels protested. If the Astros win, I expect the protest to be upheld. Big time fuck-up by the umpires.

670AM is a part of the CBS radio network, but they have no direct relation to WBBM, the actual TV/radio CBS affiliate in town.

Specifically, this is being run by 670AM The Score, the local sports talk radio station in town. Not sure who was the brainchild of this idea, but there are enough douchebags that work there for it to be no surprise this exists to begin with.

If keeping tabs on what other consenting adults are doing behind closed doors is your thing, then yeah, I guess I could care. But seeing as I don't care, and never have cared, what people do behind closed doors, then this is just another episode of the series "I don't give a rat's ass."
