As kind of a sidenote on the first episodes, and another unfortunate comparison to Penny Dreadful, I think it is fine to take those first episodes slow and build up the structures for the characters like they are doing here as long as the show then starts moving based on those character choices.

This show should not be as good as it is. I might be misremembering this a little, but Christian’s portrayal was fairly revolutionary. Not only was there no judgment about him and his lifestyle in the movie, but it didn’t trip all over itself once its revealed he’s gay either, just treated the whole thing in such a pragmatic manner.

I think this season was a nice showcase for Kayvan Novak. Nandor has fewer opportunities to riff so in Season 1, I liked him, but never thought we got beyond “creepy paper.” But this season his ramblings about Guillermo in particular were great, and he seemed to have a larger personality.

Of the many joys ‘Commnity’ has given us, one of the greatest was seeing Kevin Corrigan’s version of ‘overacting’ as the drama professor. Casting a veteran underactor as a professional ham was an inspired choice, and fucking hilarious.

I remain irritated at at these continued attempts to make Pete Davidson into A Thing, but I was hoping at least he’d be funny in an Apatow movie.

Part of the fun of watching Dark Knight Rises is watching all the tricks — Scully box, forced perspective, over-the-shoulder shots, floor-level shots — Nolan uses to turn 5'9" Tom Hardy into the colossal presence of Bane.
