Yep, they get a nice marketing bump, and this stunt always comes out to keep old logos from falling out of trademark for non-use. The marketing and legal departments have no say in the quality of the product.

My son plays 16-u now and we’ve finally encountered our first number 69 on an opposing team. Said number 69 is 6'0, 250 with facial hair and a hell of a slapshot.
