I believe most of the mechanical components are fairly common.  The main issue I’ve heard is getting body panels and such in the event of an accident.

I have owned BOTH. They are NO more reliable than the Germans, and cost just as much and often more to fix. In exchange, the Germans ride, drive, and handle better, and are an all-around better place to be.

No Taurus/Sable wagons, either. While it’s not show quality, I still daily my ‘02 Sable wagon. It’s done yeoman service for me for 20 years now.
