One thing SATC did achieve was normalise the concept that women actually like sex, if you don’t think that was radical you must not have been around in the 80s/90s. It is hugely problematic given its focus on finding a man, later hyper-consumerism, and the fact that it was mainly written by gay men. But it did go a

If she calls herself a humanist, tree just does not get it AT ALL.

Given how many MRAs have come out to denounce the censorship of rape scenes and “PC culture” I assert that what we need to see the rape of men on screen as much as women. Lets not tone it down, show the softly lit, gratuitous rape of men and male teens and see if they feel the same way about maintaining rape on screen

Bullshit. Historically men commonly suffer rape and sexual abuse in war. See the recent reports on the US military to see just how rampant it is even within their own ranks. Rape has nothing to do with the victim’s strength and everything to do with an assertion of power by the rapist. Rapists often have weapons and

One of the very, very, very first rape scenes in GOT is Daenerys Targaryen being raped by Khal Drogo, backlit against a sunset. The TV series includes multiple rapes that didn’t feature at all in the book and provide absolutely no plot development. The women’s breasts are always on show as is much of the rest of there

Your comment, is both overwritten and patently untrue. Rape features repeatedly in TV shows when it is entirely superfluous to the plot and often purposely sexually objectifies the victim. So no, rape does not simply feature when “the whole story revolves around it,” it is often provides no valuable plot development

Phew. I thought I was going to be sent to one of those camps where I would be tied to a chair as a topless Adam Levine would gently gyrate around me making eye contact the whole time.

Men get raped yet that doesn’t feature in TV shows. Why are you not arguing for more male rape on screen?

Men get raped in real life yet we ignore that on screen. I would like to see more men get raped onscreen that serves absolutely no plot purpose and provides an excuse to objectify the male body of the victim. Equality!

Well reducing the already rampant rape scenes used for titillation would indeed help. If you are so pro-rape scenes why not agitate for more men being raped onscreen? Men get raped in the real world but almost never onscreen, why is that? Why don’t TV shows reflect the reality. Why can’t we see the softly lit, violent

Are you fucking kidding me. Film and TV use rape as an irrelevant non-plot driven device ALL THE DAMN TIME. Game of Thrones is full of rape scenes that were NOT in the books and are constantly used as an excuse to brutalise women onscreen and show some tits. You could not be more incorrect if you tried.

Why do we have to see a woman raped onscreen? It can be implied without veering into the titillation we see constantly on GOTs. In this case the audience and their expectations have changed over time. When the book was published it was legal to rape your wide. Social mores have changed and pop TV will reflect that.

Fuck off back to the Daily Mail.

The rape scene in Hitcock’s “Marnie” was also played as romantic. The original (male) screen writer refused to include the scene and was fired for it. A woman took over and in the DVD commentary discusses how she didn’t see it as problematic at all whatsoever.

You’re giving GOTs far, far too much credit. Mostly rape is used for titillation and the amount of sexual violence onscreen does not match what sin the books.

This issue is the amount of rape, the fact that it is generally not plot driven and that it is far, far too often used for titillation. If rape is so NB then why isn’t there the same amount of sexual violence against men.

2 of the black men in question are known abusers, the other is a narcissist.

It’s a brave choice, does it not hurt to walk on?

That’s not much of a list, frankly. Especially given his age.

Umm, I still don’t like him.
