Obama had a shit load of more pressing issues then Dr.West.

Also, just to be clear, I still very much admire and respect Dr. West. He’s done so much — and he’s still doing a lot. But I really believe that, although many of his criticisms of Obama were valid, the way Obama didn’t really make space for him hurt him deeply, and that seems to be affecting his public work now.

Word. It’s like, even if he had a point he undermined it just by being petty. I mean, has Coates ever come for West like that? Why was it even necessary?

Can also consider urban Black American neighborhoods and ratio of dog owners to other ethnic ( European, Pacific Island, South American, etc.) American neighborhood and legacy of use of dogs to intimidate Black Americans. Not as cuddly hx.

Are you kidding? It’s easier to find a book for kids about a dog than about a black girl. That is a problem.

IDK about this particular little girl, but having been a Black girl - I always thought White folks were overly obsessed with their pets. Dog as man’s best friend is not accepted across all cultures. Animals are nice and all, but hardly interesting as fictional characters. Additionally, it must be irritating as fuck to

The point is that dogs are seen as more deserving protagonists for children’s books than black girls. There’s nothing wrong with reading about dogs (I loooooooove dogs). But there’s a problem when so many authors are seeing them as more relatable than black human girls.
