So it goes ripping off Quentin Tarantino and then rip off Fight Club.

I love that Taika Waititi’s response to that was just “LOL nah!”
A lot of posters are quite clearly still salty about how there weren’t any clown-themed mass shootings after the first one.
I’m going to assume that the next step after ripping off Scorsese is ripping off Fight Club.
Why write a full article when “Todd Phillips just learned about Cape Fear and oh boy is he pumped to have more material” would do?
I always use Miles Davis as the my personal example of seperating the art from the artist. Nobody takes Kind of Blue away. I can’t forgive Cosby though but I don’t have the same attachment to his work, and Davis never claimed to be a moral model or America’s dad. He was always a motherfucker and proud of that.
That’s kind of the problem of celebrity culture and hero worship in general, including of historical figures. The public wants to either classify people as perfect or as monsters even though things aren’t that simple.
There’s no such thing as “politics”. It’s a phrase rich people made up so you won’t be interested in what they’re about to do to you.
While a person can certainly be on the spectrum and be a sociopath at the same time, the two conditions aren’t related. Not recognizing social cues isn’t the same as not caring when you do, or only seeing them in the context of how it affects you.
“a public announcement that should, if nothing else, throw some much-needed attention toward that often misunderstood condition.”
So do priests.
One might reasonably expect that it’s a character constructed to sell a product, and that someone intelligent enough to create one just might have other depths behind what is, in fact, a literal stage persona.
I imagine the expectations are along the lines of ‘I’m entering a relationship with a man who plays a larger than life caricature as part of an act, but isn’t a monster in real life’.
Speaking of expectations - when you victim-shame, you can fully expect to get dragged for it.
Yeah the only ‘emo’ bands I’m seeing mentioned here are Sunny Day Real Estate and American Football. Really seems like people are getting tripped up on the mall emo scene that existed for like 5 years and ignoring all the fantastic music that existed 10 years before that and for 15+ years after.
Dude, they let you make Verotika. Clearly you can still just make whatever bullshit you want and no one is actually stopping you.
Yup.
It’s going to take a long long time, a lot of deaths and more and more lockdowns before we get to grips with this pandemic, because people like these are just weak. If they have to go a week without a trip to KFC or a few beers at a bar they lose their fukin’ minds. WEAK. And it’s the rest of us who will pay for it.…
Yeah, I’m a little surprised at how many people are acting like they are surprised by this - there has always been a strong anti-authoritarian bent in the scene, regardless of partisan politics.
I always associated NYC hardcore, particularly the older guys, with a sort of weirdo, nihilistic libertarianism and this only cements that association for me.
