I have watched and read *none* of these...

In all likelihood the Navy did what it normally does; get congress to agree to build the first flight of ships that are tweaked so they can be said to have a specialized, crucial roles. Once the pipelines are up for making the ship, demand their functionality be rolled into their original intended purpose.

Literally every big deck amphib is a "Carrier for the Marines"

Depictions of genitalia is straight-up illegal there, I believe.

Have they fixed the lip sync yet?

I've seen plenty of shipboard turret systems, and they're usually huge. Almost all of them require coolant systems, a hard mount, a sometimes lengthy string of computers, they're pretty complex and require a lot of specific things.

I'm honestly surprised they could retro-fit an old tank with one. I'd expect to see this

A periscope and mirror would require the scope to be recalibrate after every time the main gun fired, since unlike normal periscopes it would have to be precise for aiming.

Computer Interface Operated turrets are more complex than you think.

ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY LORD HELIX, RULER OF KNOWN REALMS, KNOWER OF ALL TRUTHS, ITEM OF RELEVANT USE.

I am so in. Just add some Role Playing Elements. And some more guns. And vending machines. Oh and make the AI Evil.

Oh and just change the name to System Shock 3 while you’re at it. If you could that it, it would be great, m’kay?

The ships may be old, but they're still incredibly difficult to sink. They way they're built, half the ship could be flooded and it would still float. And aside from that, there's not a lot you need to worry about structurally. Anchoring really won't be a problem in an inlet like that.

They'll be a gap between the bows, and they'll probably extend that gap with a bridge between the carriers.

Honestly carriers are so big that the space under their bows, doubled, would be big enough for most civilian traffic aside from cargo ships.

I now know how my parents felt almost 20 years ago, looking at Pokemon and going “What, the actual fuck, is this?”

Annual SAPR? Shit we we're doing monthly by the time I left in the Navy. Can't imagine they were trying to hammer it home any less green-side.

Probably was a JO the signed off on it following the advice of a senior NCO that had stopped giving a fuck.

Yes. Yes, yes. Yes! Yes... yes? Yes.

What fresh new form of internet autism is this?

Well, I’ll be sure to throw out all the concerning scientific evidence and replace it with your personal, anecdotal evidence.
