I’m going with Mazdaspeed 6. Turbo, AWD, 4 doors, good looks and a manual trans. What’s not to love?!

Turn in your car-guy card. It’s been revoked.
Disagree. If called anything but a GTO I think it would have been more successful. I liked it’s “less is more” styling approach. Which given Pontiacs penchant for overstyling, was welcome..
Yep! I always put a block behind the rear tire, stick the wheels/tires under the frame and keep a cell phone with me if I’m by myself.
It would even be a CP at half that cost
They’ve become what the S13 240SX was in the mid 2000's.
Yeah, many of the 4 bangers are manuals. Honestly mine is the only 3.7 V6 I’ve seen with the manual. It’s a damn school bus transmission though. Throws are long and sloppy, but it beats the auto. Plus 1st is really short, so the Liberty can do a pretty badass burnout. :)
Great article. And I don’t even care about baseball. Fun read. I’m a photographer in the media, and have covered some college and pro football games. Your camera probably was a giveaway and I’m sure the other photographers noticed, but just didn’t care to rat you out.
Our Liberty is a V6 with a manual and 2WD. Best I’ve managed is 23mpg. I agree fuel economy is not great, but it can “out-truck” a comparable CRV or RAV4.
nice!
Trying to “kill it” in the sense that I’m just mean to the poor thing. Not purposely trying to kill it, just hard on it.
Sucks you’ve had so much trouble. I’ve met several people with them, all of them happy with theirs. Our 2004 has been nothing but stellar. Once rained in it with windows down and sunroof open...all night! It dried out, and power everything still worked! Can’t say a Honda would hold up to that.
Only real mechanical thing really that would go wrong was the front upper and lower ball joints prematurely wear out. There was a recall early on. I’ve since replaced mine with Moog parts and it’s been fine.
Well Jeep aficionados didn’t like them initially, it was thought to be an unworthy successor to the Cherokee for one. I’m sure 4 wheelers could tell you other reasons, of which I’m sure there are many. Truth is, they are fairly capable for what they are intended for. It’s no Moab slayer tho and never was supposed to…
