Oh, well thank you for the assumptions. My opinion of her has little to do with her appearance and is based on her behavior, which is that of a shallow middle school mean girl. I have no strong opinion of her dress one way or the other, but it's laughable to pretend she's "thoughtfully" serving a greater purpose.

Just a thought on that...so when we see Miley Cyrus grinding a foam finger in her crotch, we are projecting when we find that sexual, and grossly sexual at that? What other way can we see that?

Rihanna looked stunning in that dress. However she does not strike me in the slightest as thoughtfully challenging the patriarchy. She acts the part of a mindless patriarch servant, and by all indications has the maturity of a thirteen year old girl. Today's girls need their own TLC and less Rihannas.

TLC's right that they'll be accused of being motivated by jealousy. Also prudery. Because women always be catfightin rowr and if you're not a "slut" you must be a "prude."

Re: TLC and Rihanna, just another example of the generational divide when it comes to women and open displays of sexuality.

Because if you need to work at being thin there's the looming possibility that you might get fat one day. Horrors!

#Won'tanyonethinkaboutthepooroppressedskinnypeople!

Not against it. I know lots of slim people are naturally slim but there are also alot who aren't but pretend to fall into this category and get their omg amazing body from eating chocolate everyday! It buys into that whole ridiculous perfect cool girl thing of the girl who doesnt care about dieting but has a slim

This is such an important point. I've talked to a number of people who haven't seen the show yet who are turned off by the reputation for gratuitous sex and violence that t has, and won't try the books either for that exact reason. It's really sad to me that this growing theme of pushing the boundaries through rape

I'm fine with blaming everyone but Martin. The show is starting to make the books look worse than they are, and I think it's noteworthy (and increasingly disturbing) that just about every time the show departs significantly from the books it's so they can add more heavily sexualized violence. I'm starting to get a

Because people are awful, the new commenting system makes it easy for trolls to pick fights, and denying that rape culture exists is all the rage these days.

This is a brilliant article and I'm delighted to see it posted here. More than any of the other articles on this topic, I think this one hits the really troubling aspects of the rape-a-thon that is the TV adaptation.

Because we live in a world where the threat of sexual violence for women is real, where something like a third of women are victims of sexual assault, where rape is minimized and cast as "just sex," where rapists are unlikely to face social consequences (let alone jail time), and where sexual violence and the threat

I have to point out that this Ros thing is the most loathesome development as of late - utterly indefensible.

Translation: Criticizing things I like isn't allowed. Shut up and take it!

"I mean, if you want to talk about how it's stupid to let people know that you are dispassionate about a cause we are all supposed to support, then I agree."

Yeah, I don't find the 'hate speech = thought crime' argument very compelling though

yup, because that's what feminism is. Wow, you summed up a 100+ year human rights movement in one glib phrase! What other Limbaugh uttered bon mots do you have for us tonight?

I dunno. I'm a person of color and if I said that "Oh you know anti-racism and civil rights, it's like watching paint dry amirite?" I think people would be understandably pissed. She's building her dumbass career and persona on some antiquated feminine icons though so I'm not really shocked.

Way to start an extremely annoying titty war thread. I'm sure that's what Jezebel wanted so good job.
