The Ford Transit is probably the best newer vehicle analogous to the Mazda 5. I can't think of anything else even close. It does come down to how many people are being carried. The Fit (I’m definitely not objective) will carry 4 and their weekend luggage, or 2 and enough for at 5k trip.

If you do any international traveling, you might consider enrolling in Global Entry, which includes PreCheck. It does take more time to process and requires an in person interview (which can be done at some airports), but it has saved my wife and I enough time to be worth it.
