another side note: if you haven’t bought the bike yet, and have an idea you’ll want/need adjustable levers (if they arent already there), research the options. i have what WAS a fairly common beginner bike (though not ninja 250 level, mine’s the 500 flavor), and levers are basically nonexistent.

the problem is modifications. the manual assumes the brakes it left the factory with, but US beetles (supers included) didn’t get disc brakes from the factory, but Ghias did (which is what those calipers look to be from.

I will second this...74 super, alternator from the factory. pushstarted it MANY times, until i finally quit being lazy and put in a hot start relay.

i’m kind of glad snapchat (and the term “selfie”) didn’t exist back when i decided it would be funny to go through a drivethru in reverse (in my VW). it’s not right-hand drive, i was just young and stupid and thought it’d be funny, and made my then-girlfriend handle ordering and the cashier.

on a side note, i think 235/75 must be factory 4x4 size on mine too, given that with the factory tires, the speedo read 3 or 4 mph high at 65. with the change, it's now spot on.

if i trusted them enough to let them touch it, it'd be fun to bring my Bug in and watch their heads spin...165/80's are the generally accepted "modern" size that fits, but it's got 205/55's on the front, and 225/50's on the back.

apparently your Walmart is much more reasonable than they are in California. Hit Walmart when I was out of town (on a Sunday) wanting tires for my truck because mine were bald, it was pouring rain, and I had a couple hours of driving to get home.

only particularly bad one i had was a past mechanic leaving the key on and burning up the points on my bug. later, i come to pick up the car not knowing, merrily cranking away and kill the battery, so now it needs a jump.

looks like a Sacramento Bugorama...used to attend these pretty regularly, though i didn’t get to get close enough for the best shots. on the opposite side, the racers’ tow vehicles are pretty horrible about blocking the view of the starting line.

so..at the time i was mid 20's, driving an old bug, and making the rounds of the local dealers in search of a truck. primarily focused on compact trucks, but open to full size as well.
