Yes! American TV cooks always use mayonnaise or something, I’ve noticed that! I’ve never looked at the butter like that, it’s just to moisten the bread and form a bit of a barrier against the wetter fillings soaking through so it should barely be a scraping but some people go overboard! But buttered toast is the best!
