When I was a very little girl, Prince came on the scene in a clear plastic raincoat (always open), a pair of tiny black drawers (sometimes animal print), & a pair of cowboy boots that didn't match. Although many musicians look up to him, not one male musician has ever been asked to remark on his going on stage pretty

If it was a cultural norm to poke customers in the eyeballs, it wouldn't make it any less of a dick move.

Is it normal to try to sneak extra bread onto the table so you can charge more? Because that's bullshit in any culture.

I agree. It doesn't matter why people start talking about it, what's great is that we're talking about it.

Ahhhhhh to have never heard street harassment. I'm just going to linger in this imagined heaven for a moment. :-)

We live in a culture, in many cases, that still calls a father taking care of his children "babysitting" rather than "parenting." Couple do need to talk this through before having kids. Someone, at some point, is going to need to be there to take care of them, but it doesn't always have to be one parent by default.

I wish I had been lucky enough to have teachers like yours.

As a teacher, all I can say is these teachers are what all of us in the profession should strive to live up to. They handled every situation you mentioned with completely professional, appropriate responses/actions. Your teacher's speech about body-shaming may not seem like much, but to those girls probably helped

Yeah, I'm pretty much thinking your dog thinks you're the best mom ever, because...

Probably because they're too much... drama.
