Alternative: advocate for good game developers and game development practices.

No it’s not. Streamers even those who can afford questionable practices (which are in the minority, even among those notorious enough to be targeted by those practices) are not equivalent to multi-billion dollar companies trying to save a few thousands in marketing.

You don’t have to give them anything if you don’t want.  I’ve managed quite well at it so far.

imagine thinking streamers get “mega ad revenue”

Claiming that streamers as a group get “mega ad revenue” suggests you do not know what a kettle is, in this case. Do some research on what an incredibly tough job that is to do at a living wage.

Note I said “donate”, not “subscribe”.

It really is a tiny, minuscule percentage of streamers that make “mega” revenue from anything. The already-tiny percentage of streamers that can do it as their full time job put in 12+ hours a day to barely scrape by. And then there’s everybody else.

Corporations doing everything they can to exploit workers and save a buck. Hilarious!

When it comes to the very high end streamers, maybe.  Way more streamers don’t even get $10 a month out of ads and rely on subs/donations to get even close to making streaming profitable, much less livable.  It should also be noted, subbing and donating is NEVER mandatory to watch streams, at least not for ones that

Not really sure what you mean by “peddling” but most streamers never ask people for donations. They welcome them but never state “hey donate money to me”. Also the streamers that have the big contracts are in the minority. Not every streamer gets million dollar sponsorships. Add to the fact that the people who donate

I don’t get why people think this is a new phenomenon. There are people who earn more than what most people earn in a year just kicking a ball around a field for an hour. And people pay money to watch these people do it even though they’re already incredibly rich. But even though I don’t understand the appeal

Hi, since I’m seeing lots of talk about whether the headline/image are a spoiler, here’s my thinking on that: it’s only a spoiler if you look at Lev being trans as something that’s meant to be a surprise or some kind of dramatic reveal. Years upon years of trans storylines have taught us this (think: The Crying Game,

Imagine framing someone thinking you don’t deserve the same basic human rights as everyone else as “an opinion you don’t agree with”.

It’s not just that she has an opinion people don’t agree with, it’s that she’s an enabler, lending validation to an attitude that when put in practice actively harms other people.

Listen, you patronising cretin. Just because you also happen to buy into her transphobia doesn’t make it a “perfectly valid criticism”. The problem with people like you is that you want to wave the ‘opinion’ card around any time someone tries to call you out on your bullshit. Sometimes it isn’t an opinion: sometimes

Here’s the best part: None of you will engage me.

Oh yeah, I forgot that video games are a charity where we’re all obligated to buy every single game that comes out regardless of whether or not we’re interested in it, because otherwise someone might “lose work.”

Ah yes, the good old “why would you punish someone for an opinion” defense of hate speech.

“Free” market, man. ::shrug::

Die mad about it you stupid bigot. Sorry trans lives are more important than some fucking video game.
