So, two months later update time. I’ve been getting into Grady Spencer and the Work a little bit lately. Not what I would call country at all, really, but they play them on The Ranch a good amount and I like their sound. “Same Place” is my current jam.

I bet he has

The natives, or at least a lot of them, do believe chili should be without beans. You’ll find a lot of canned chili to be beanless. Sometimes they also carry it with beans. Probably more now that people are moving in from all over.

It was better when it was Real American Heroes (pre-9/11).

We’ll probably get back there some day. All the old fashions come back around eventually!

It’s hard not assume there’s going to be an ulterior motive come up by the end of the conversation. It restores a little faith in humanity when there isn’t.

I don’t think I would, either, at this point, but I think there’s usually good to be found somewhere between two opposing viewpoints.

I’m probably guilty sometimes, and my non-official resolution is to shut my mouth more often on the internet this year. I feel like the whole Kinja model is moving toward the “hot take/hotter response” model that Deadspin always talks shit about. I get that these are left-leaning sites, but God/Allah/spaghetti monster

Ha. What you describe is like the mirror image of what I always felt about Jezebel. Lately, though, I feel like all the sites are getting like that. And you’re probably right about Deadspin. There’s always been a couple women bloggers who I felt offered a different perspective, but I’m not sure I’m qualified to say

Relevant: “There are many valid reasons for people to stop giving space to Ball; that so very much of what he says is “complete nonsense,” as Kerr puts it, is certainly one of them.”

And most of the Gawker/Gizmodo realm the past few years. I guess it leans more my style, so it’s less offensive than right-leaning places, but it’s not exactly the bastion of civil expression that it pretends to be if someone doesn’t 100% toe the company line. I mostly hang out on Deadspin, but it’s not a whole lot

Get a really firm memory foam mattress from whoever (maybe $300 for a queen), a good memory foam topper and a mattress pad and you’re set.

Hearing the Purdue band open and Gomer start belting it out will always be the definitive sound of the Indy 500 for me. The V8 turbos of the 90s will be a close second.

Man, I’ve been there. Now that I’ve hit the 30s, I try not to drink more than a couple beers per show so that I can remember it AND not spend half the show in the pisser.

There’s still a lot of good stuff out there if you care to look for it beyond what you hear on the local “New Country” radio station.

Move ahead to 29:10 while you’re watching. This is the guy who won the Grammy award for best country record (albeit for the least country record that he’s put out yet).

I like that song. Gonna have to go through that record.

That would have been a crazy show to see. I think the only one I knew about at all back in 2008 was Tom Gabel since I knew about Against Me! Did they play together or was it separate shows?

If you venture outside your local iHeart shit, you’ll find your take not to be the case, so much.

As a Fort Worthian, I agree.
