A lot of newer full sized trucks have gotten so big and tall that they are becoming impractical. It now requires a step stool or ladder to get to the bed. If I want to throw stuff in the bed having it that high is not at all useful. 

As it is in most other industries, the fact that dealerships are franchises--not directly owned by the company that makes the products they sell--is a huge part of the problem.
