This is good. Maybe not great for Austin in the short term, but it never made much sense for cities to trip over each other to see who could throw the most money at an event. Hopefully this will allow other cities and states to say “leave it or take it."

Huh. I’ve had a litany of problems with mine (two 5's and two 6's). Weird problems, too, like the rubberized back flaking off on a hot day, or the headphone jack failing after 4 months. My latest one has a noticeable gap between parts of the shell. Still the best phone on the market, but I go through them fast.

I liked my Nexus 5's, but I’m shocked that you have one from 2014 that’s still standing today. Nice specs when new, but the nexus phones seem to fall apart pretty easily.

This seems like a recipe for protecting good contracts and leaving bad contracts exposed. It would make sense for the expansion teams to have a few extra cap dollars to compensate, but I doubt that will happen.

How is the support for 2 factor authentication on each one? I more or less stopped using mint a year and a half ago when I decided to get serious about 2FA, and mint could no longer connect to some of my banks. Has the situation improved? Is there a mint alternative that supports 2FA?

Huh, I guess that makes sense. I would have figured that it would make more financial sense to just buy a normal amount of cookies and make a donation to the troop (I’d imagine the commercial bakeries take a substantial cut) but there are probably some non-linear/non-strictly-financial incentives in play I hadn’t

I have no doubt that this is delicious, but is “too many girl scout cookies” really a thing that happens to people?

Gun stores do sell guns directly to criminals. Straw buyers are criminals. The NRA has done everything they can to make sure that straw buyers can continue to operate.

They pretty much ship straight from the factory to straw buyers. And the NRA has done everything possible to keep the straw buyers’ business model intact.

Pretty sure they were lawfully acquired when they were shipped from the factory.

The way you counter can also make a difference in how the negotiation goes.

“Both teams play by the same rules” is pretty weak sauce. Some rules are basketball, other rules aren’t, and the rules they played this game under wasn’t basketball.

This is the first time I’ve heard something aviation related measured in yards. Seems weird.

Part of me wants to say I kind of liked that Walter Mitty movie, but I feel like an over the hill sports columnist whenever I firm the words in my head.

There’s also the step of disabling all the “enhanced” features of the TV.

Random thing I’ve been wondering about: what are the non-mileage thresholds for routine maintenance that I should be thinking about? Every rule of thumb I’ve got is based on either mileage or weather, because I grew up driving rust buckets in New England.

This is the least correct comment I’ve seen on Kinja today. Congratulations!

Those are eighths, not sixths.

I’m not so sure that most people make the connection between “invest in yourself” and “any time you invest, you expect a return.” I don’t think there are many people who confuse pizza and Netflix with investing, but I do think a lot of people confuse “bettering yourself,” with “investing in yourself.”

I’m skeptical of most of what he says on the article, but “coaches and programs” are probably more worthwhile than most kinds of “investing in yourself.” A good coach can get you to be better at your job, or get you to go for that promotion/raise once your skills are improved.
