I tend to read short fiction in collections around a single theme, or else in collections that feature a couple favorite authors, mostly to find new authors to love. Conversely, I’ll pick up a collection of a single author’s work. But these methods of reading short fiction don’t generally seem conducive to finding

Thanks for actually identifying all the characters. It makes me nuts when sites just publish a string of photos and leave us to guess at the ones we don’t know!

3rd for Puerto Rico! We have sadly only spent 2 days in San Juan but plan to go back for a week.

Well, I should have expected that after the Tower of London I might be too tired to do anything else. It would have been a good idea to do the red bus tour after that, when I just couldn’t walk any more; the bus tour (which we took on a totally different day) was really wonderful.

We skipped Stonehenge in favor of Avebury and loved the weird idea of a stone age site with a village plunked in the middle. Lovely.

Oh dear. That sounds exhausting. I did manage to fall on my knee at the very beginning of the trip myself. and my limping did not really enhance the experience. There sure are a lot of stairs in London!

Oh, yeah, I feel you there. There are a LOT of tourists in Prague. I also had that “surrounded” feeling in Egypt — at some of the historical sites you could hear seven languages other than Arabic. You were really in a herd of gawkers and without a local friend, that’s pretty much what you would end up with.

Hmm, that’s interesting. I loved Prague, even just the walking around and pointing at things on menus that we couldn’t decipher. I’m trying to think what a non-touristy thing to do is... hang out in locals spots? Every place I drank beer had locals in it. There’s lots of theater there besides what they push at

I very much regret my approach to the city of London.

Sure, Milwaukee’s the problem. You know... Milwaukee... where Scott Walker used to be County Executive...

Yes. Such a REFRESHING feeling!

How do you KNOW you were born? Were you even there? Oh wait...

On the other hand, I still adore the five year old girl who corrected her dad after he said, “See, honey, look at the lion!” “Daaad. That’s a TIGER.” She was, of course, correct.

Well, if you BELIEVE in years!

Maybe it’s an Autocorrect Fail, but I LOVE “endangerment rings”.

“Dad, can I go to Jimmy’s house?”

Everybody keeps using the word “nominated” for both the Hugos and the RITA awards, but actually they mean something quite different. Anyone with a supporting membership to Worldcon can make multiple nominations for the Hugo awards. The top vote getters make the ballot.

Yeah! There Will Be Blood. So what?

STARBUCKS POST! STARBUCKS POST! STARBUCKS POST!

you’ve got a point there
