Maybe that’s where the buyback comes in, CBEA cars could be bought back because the fix is too difficult and applies to only a small number of vehicles where the enginerring costs would be high per vehicle while CJAA cars would get a fix where the costs would be spread over a much larger number of vehicles.

Frankly I like them both although personally I would not pay $6k for either as they aren't anywhere near as reliable or modern as a Miata is and there are plenty of nice $6k Miatas available.

I’ve noticed that there has yet to be an AOTD in 2016. Is the AOTD dead or just as they say in that classic Monty Python sketch “resting”? Hopefully it’s just gone for the week and will be back soon, that is one of the things that keeps me coming back to Jalopnik day after day.

One thing that may end up pushing the rise of electric cars is the rise of the self-driving car. Very few, if any, of the companies that are developing self-driving cars are powering them with an ICE, they are usually electric or something very close like fuel-cell powered. Now I’m not so sure that self-driving cars

Same here, I love my Fiesta ST but the Tesla Model 3 is the next car on my automotive horizon.

I don’t quite understand when gas prices have a track record of wildly swinging between $2 and $4.50 a gallon that the type of cars sold at any given time reflect the existing gas price as if it’s never going to go up again. I’ve been though enough cycles that I want to drive something that gets at least 30 mpg even

If they’d cared a little less about cargo space or went with a more expensive battery they could have gotten better range, but in that case it wouldn’t be $22k, it would be $30k just like the Bolt.

If you’ve got the $9k sure but not all of us do. Also it depends on your commute distance, charger availability (we have 4 at work) and how fast you are going to think that technology changes. Frankly at the moment when it comes to electric cars I’d either want to go cheap (or lease) or go Tesla where they have a good

I’m a liberal and a Bernie Sanders suporter but I’m also a computer programmer and thus don’t trust self-driving cars to be as 100% perfect as they need to be. There are always bugs or management that wants the code Tuesday, not when it’s right. Besides even if the software is 100% bug-free it’s still at some point

I’m not 100% sure that’s as decided internationally as you and China are assuming. I’d like to see an argument that such a man-made island is nothing more than a non-movable aircraft carrier and as such that the 12 mile limit, etc. does not apply to it. Else what’s to stop any country from building a man-made island

Nothing that I didn’t do back in the day with my dad’s Citroen SM…

In the name of full disclosure I have to admit that I drive a FiST currently :-).

While I am sure that’s true my understanding is that it has more to do with the fact that courts decide who is at fault in an accident so having video evidence is very useful to prevent a he-said she-said situation.

Or this for $21,670 after incentives?

Given the size of the boat the result was inevitable no matter how careful the loading was, it was just a matter of how it was going to go down...

It should be noted that that many states are also suing VW so their total US fine could be quite a bit higher still.

They may have sold it to Hertz as my mother is currently driving a rental 2014 Mazda2 courtesy of her bonehead Ford dealer backing into her Fiesta when it was in for service.

I’d like to know who these people are and where they work because it certainly isn’t at my company where we’ve had years of nearly-stagnant wages, layoffs galore, worsening healthcare and disappearing pensions. My family fleet (4 cars) averages 16 years old and that’s only because I saved up the money to buy a new

Frankly I think that might turn out to be the cheapest solution but some folks likely won't take it which means either VW is still going to need a fix or the government will need to force buybacks which I'm sure no one wants to do.

Well one solution is to buy emissions offsets but the problem there is that the offsets could come from specific actions in specific locals (shutting down a coal-fired power plant for example) while the pollution is happening everywhere. There is also the problem of state governments. I know that the WA state DOE is
