You’re off by over a decade. The original black plates were replaced by the plain blue plates in 1969/1970. The rising sun plates didn’t hit until 1984. I have a personalized plate from then.

Nah I’ve got out of too many things by officers skipping court day.  I don’t want to penalize them for letting me off the hook.

You missed an era. In the ‘70s-mid ‘80s, CA plates were blue with gold numbers.
