F&F: Container Drift

Drove from LA to Phoenix on Sunday. Passed two convoys. One was Toyota T-100s towing old (pre-Tacoma) Toyota pickups. Some of the T-100s appeared to have Toyota pickup frames in the bed, resting on the cab roof.

Curious to see how billing the customer for Supercharging will work. Tesla account required? Billed through Hertz? What will Hertz’ premium be? If you bring the car back not at 100% charge, what is the per kWh charge? Is it 2X what normal electricity rate is?

The price of containers overseas is skyrocketing because everything is stuck here. To the point where they’ve stepped up container production to cash in. There’s money to be made getting them back overseas, until the whole thing crashes because of a global glut of containers.

So I’ve got a deposit in on a Lightning... Do I switch?

The Hilux WAS sold in the US, it was just called the Toyota Pickup. These seem to be the trucks that are mainly in the convoys I see. Hiluxes towing Hiluxes. There are occasional Tacomas (the original small body ones) but mostly Hiluxes.

Pretty common sight along I-10 in AZ.  They appear to be buying up all the Toyota pickups (Hilux).

We have a 2009 Escape Hybrid. It has 300k miles on it. Hybrid battery is getting a bit weak, but it always starts and goes. The biggest problem I’ve had was an O2 sensor going bad and then the bung stripping out. Pulled the manifold out and welded in a new bung and capped the old one. Car was down for a weekend and…
