I think the biggest problem is the lack of scientific literacy. Some study gets incorrectly or incompletely reported, everyone freaks out, someone else throws in a bunch of pseudoscience in the mix, rince and repeat.

It's called "lube" and "not doing penetration so often". Limiting the time/frequency/intensity of hazardous work is a trivial thing to do, and is done in every other industry.
