Even in-universe there’s a “pronoun thing,” which is a weird way to call “ways people refer to themselves that literally don’t affect you.” Your willful refusal to be okay with “them,” a pronoun that hasn’t exclusively referred to the plural even in Shakespeare’s time, is telling.

Fun fact: the rescue scene in this movie is inspired by Castle in the Sky, as per Lasseter’s foreword in Miyazaki’s autobiography, Starting Point. You can kinda see it, too!

Allison (and Alasdair, if you’re reading this), I’ve read your reviews since the pre-Kinja days, and commenting alongside the legion of super-heroes Arrow fans has been one of the great pleasures of Being Online. Honestly, Arrow ending is sad, but it’s making me a little more emotional that I can’t look forward to

When I saw that ol’ Palpy had a zillion Star Destroyers (or I guess Planet Destroyers, since these guys got the Death Star upgrade), I immediately assumed they were staffed by clone troopers, because who else would be okay with just sitting around waiting for orders?

I was surprised by that too! It’s actually not super often that Oliver and Company get to be competent outside a season finale. Which ... since this is a series finale ... I suppose it makes sense that they’re all competent throughout this season.

This film sure picked up steam. Went to see it on a rainy night in Manhattan and it’s been sold out for days on all four screens at the one theater screening it here.

Hey, Dowd. How’s it going?

It’s the equivalent of an Elseworlds story. And those were always best when they ran full-speed with the creators’ own wild ideas.

Thanks for writing about this film—wouldn’t have heard about it otherwise, and it’s really great to continue to hear about “stuff I wouldn’t hear about otherwise” on AV Club. Now all I have to do is source this film ...

For some folks, here’s a recommendation I don’t see here: the Mobile Passport app. I’m spoiled because I return to an airport that uses Mobile Passport (San Francisco International Airport), but the line for Mobile Passport is actually often shorter than even that of Global Entry. And of course, it’s free.

Classic King move, following up Knightmares and whatever #72-74 was with just a page that says “LATER.”

I was so happy to read this after finishing the Doom Patrol show, especially as Swamp Thing seems like it’s not going to make its second season. Which is too bad! I was hoping that the critical reception to Doom Patrol would continue encouraging DC to create wacky, off-the-wall shows—stuff like the Morrison Animal Man,

I have nothing to contribute other than seeing the comment count on this article really brought me back to the good ol’ days.

Hey! Puddinghead’s an institution around these parts!

For all its foibles, listening to the Broadway cast recording of Rent—as well as watching the movie, as I didn’t see it live until a couple years back—was the inflection point for me as a high school kid. I got into theatre because of it, majored in English as a side effect, tried to write a couple plays, and ended up

I noticed Rusted Root had a website, so I checked it out, and was pleasantly surprised to see “Shows” in their navigation bar.

Sets hopefuls up for failure

Boy, I love it when comics help me question the possibility of happiness in this, the year 2018.

I’m downright ecstatic for this series. Seeing the Hardy Boys’ names in Kirby knows how long was a treat, but Nancy is a childhood favorite— man using a woman’s pseuodonym and all.
