Last year I needed something stupid but that I could get invested in and it’s the kind of show that’s perfect for that.

Yes, it is. The best part? He’s by far one of the best actors in the cast.
You didn’t get what I meant by that. A common refrain by Cap fans is that Cap is not what America is, but America should be, followed usually by stuff like ‘a beacon of freedom’. Even the ‘good’ side of American ideals is about America leading, not about America being just another country amongst equals.
Shadowhunters is the most dramatic improvement I’ve ever seen because by the third season it had become a mediocre teen supernatural soap opera, which doesn’t sound like much except the first season is dire (like, honestly, it’s the worst show I’ve ever seen).
Well, most American blockbusters have some sort of America jingoistic tone to them. I mean, I watch them so it’s not like I find unbearable but it’s still there. Like, even stuff like ‘what America should be’ usually has some sort of subtext about how America should be a leading force for freedom or whatever, instead…
IDK why you think ‘something happening to them’ = them being arrested.
While I agree with you with the bits about the lack of detail and comic book-ness of the political plot, my main issue is that the Avengers don’t spend most of their time dealing with ‘superhero level threats’. The one ‘normal’ mission we see is one, actually, that could have been solved by law enforcement and that,…
I don’t know how you made the jump from ‘a certain American sensibility’ to ‘blatantly super-pro America’ or ‘offensively american’. They’re not more pro-America than most US movies or MCU movies but.
Ultron is 100% Avengers’ responsibility. The problem is that Bruce and Tony were reckless and destroyed a country. And nothing happened to them.
The AoU one even made the helmet work (and it’s still the suit they’re using, even the emo-dyed IW one).
Thor/Jane managed to land a believable arc through coincidence - of course she’s gonna fuck the hot, funny Viking who proves her theories right and of course she’s gonna make herself believe it’s True Love.
I would say Rhodey and Tony’s also more nuanced than it looks at first sight.
Yeah, ‘I am Iron Man’ is probably one of the pivotal moments of the MCU and the reasons it’s worked so well,.
At the same time, he’s advocating for ignoring countries’ sovereignity without offering any alternate way of being held accountable. That is arrogance. I get where he came from as a character, but he was still wrong. (Tony was wrong too!)
I disagree that Tony Stark = RDJ. RDJ plays with that idea, sure, but having seen the original alternative take, Tony is an actual character played by a very good actor and very thought-out.
I think that was the general reaction. I don’t remember people disliking it until WS went in a different direction and AoU made a modern take on the suit work.
They don’t completely manage but it’s for more complex reasons.
Iron Man 3 is a masterpiece and top tier. Time and hype have made me dislike WS more, but then I rewatch it and remember what a great efficient movie it is
the very dry Argentinian comedy Zama
And BTW, Shun is the host of Hades. The scriptwriter said he thought it’d be really interesting to make A MIND CONTROL plotline with the one girl.
