(THE NEW SEIYA IS TERRIBLE INDEED)

It’s very obvious this is a move to cater to the US market. :/

And they didn’t even take away the pink armor. It’s like a female Transformer back in G-1!

I think that there’s a big factor missing here - Saint Seiya, in Latin America, is not some also-ran classic anime. It’s as big as Dragon Ball or Sailor Moon. It has many, many female fans and many queer and gender non-conforming fans as well. We love this series. We’ve kept the franchise alive, alongside with the

She has an ATTITUDE!! now. Dear Lord, even Legend of Sanctuary did it better with fem!Milo and giving Saori more to do.

The angry people aren’t just that kind of guy! Saint Seiya has a huge female and queer fandom (i... don’t think people get how BIG this is in Latin America). We’re also pretty upset when turning any other of the mains into a girl would have been more refreshing and interesting.

I’m terrified that this time around, Hyoga/Shun is gonna be canon.

And it’s all so very literal.

My ‘big, broad blanket statement’ (ie., my question) was in reply to somebody saying that Moffat liked to use obscure 70s plot points.

I watched all of those without seeing one episode of Classic. I got it just fine. And the show does a good job of explaining their role - you don’t need to know who Rassilon is to get he’s The Leader of the Time Lords.

What’s so complicated about ‘Heather wanted to go away, the spaceship needed a pilot’? Stupid or simplistic, maybe. But hard to follow? I mean, my criticism would be that the details are simply not there, not that they’re hard to follow.

The Monks arc was bad, yep.

I... honestly can’t remember one plot point in all of New Who (other than the Master) that relies on knowing Classic Who. What are you thinking of?

Convoluted doesn’t mean Deus ex machina or unresolved or undercooked or a dropped thread. It means complicated. If you wanna criticize S8 to S10 for being haphazard, yeah, sure, but they’re not convoluted.

Really? I mean in S7: 1 - 5 - The Snowmen - 6 - 10 - the finale.

That applies to, say, S5-7, but 8/9/10 didn’t have complex arcs. Series 8 sets up a mystery that’s akin to RTD’s habit of dropping hints and has no bigger temporal craziness than ‘Missy was always there’. S9's big plot is ‘Clara is too much like the Doctor’. S10's big arc is ‘will Missy be redeemed?’ and it’s a very

What? That RTD or Moffat sometimes explored the Doctor’s motivations doesn’t mean that it didn’t come down to ‘be kind’ in the end. Like, Twelve’s series or the 50th Anniversary were VERY adamant and clear and even anvilicious about it.

It’s not like Twelve’s parting words were ‘Be kind’! /s

Chibnall has been ‘meh’, especially the episodes he’s written himself. I get that Moffat was too conceptual and it’s nice to have a stripped-down-to-basics season, but I feel like he has nothing to say that’s more complex than ‘what if the real monster was HUMANS!’.

I haven’t played much this year either. I think I finished a game or two, and even things I liked languish there, in my backlog. And for the first time in many years, I will have a relatively short vacation, so I won’t have time there
