Presumably the consent for sex in your example wouldn’t be based SOLELY on the single status of the partner/conference-goer. There is also a desire for sex (from both parties). Not so with the prostitute. The sole reason for a prostitutes consent IS the payment. Remove payment the consent doesn’t exist. That is rape.
