And once again, Assassins Creed’s biggest cause of trouble is its insistence on trying to link a bunch of unrelated games with varied protagonists to a single story thread that pretty much nobody but the writers care about.

It had a good cast that I would love to see in a better film together. I think most of it’s mediocrity was rooted in landing in exactly the worst spot between slavish devotion to the original and being its own thing. If it had gone further towards either end of the spectrum, it would have been a lot better.
