Are you kidding me? I know where you are coming from, but more rage and hate will not DE-escalate this problem. Most especially this part:

I’m sorry that you arent an intelligent person who is ruled by emotional, hyperbolic responses.

Good to know that you’re the arbitor of what things should and should not exist and feel that its ok to take the law into your own hands when you want. Lynch mobs felt the same way.

But she broke the law. Going by your own logic, we don’t get to decide which laws are ok to break just because we believe its morally ok.

Did I at any point say that those nazi scum don’t deserve to be prosecuted for any crimes they have committed?

How about just straight-up MLK? He was pretty upfront that civil disobedience, however justified, requires accepting the penalty.

Alright. Well, that’s how civil disobedience works.

Look buddy, this isn’t about protesting an unjust law as Parks and King did. Black or white, male or female, anyone would be criminally charged for pulling down any statue, pretty much anywhere.

I mean, she committed and admitted to committing a crime. What if the neo nazis pulled down a statue? We’d be all up in arms and demanding they be arrested. We can’t decide that some people are exempt from the laws just because we believe they’re morally right. That way chaos lies.

I am not white.

What this woman said was dumb. DUMB dumb dumb. It was tone deaf, didn’t really make a salient point, and I don’t know if it could even be held up as an example of “self proclaimed ally does stupid shit”, because she utterly failed to address the reality of the situation. Not to mention that this isn’t the time to talk

THANK YOU.

Some times I am afraid to say this out loud but: as a Mexican woman I am also so damn tired of al the navel gazing. I have had to endlessly educate white people on matters of immigration yes and it was surprising to me to learn that I have to do it but I still do it because expecting to find the perfect white ally

“Speak up, but be silent. Listen, but don’t ask because no one should have to educate you. Be empathetic, but remember you’re not supposed to see yourself in this scenario”.

People are angry and are looking at someone to punish. They likely don’t know any white supremacists but they certainly know a lot of well meaning liberals. Might as well go punch an ally in the face because it will make me feel better in the short-term.

For anyone out there who is a fan of RuPauls Drag Race, there was an episode where resident contradictory judge Michelle Visage got owned by Carson Kressley: “Be you, but don’t be you. Give us less, but more.”

I am very confused. Between this article and this one on The Root, I haven’t seen anybody amongst my circle behaving like this, nobody inappropriately making it about themselves. They’re all being genuinely outraged and dismissive and asking what they can do to help.

There are no such thing as allies. No one is fighting for you. Even people just like you, fighting for causes you believe in and will benefit from - they are not for you either.

Also, telling women to shut up. A known effective tactic.
