Wow the crazies come out of the woodwork quick. It’s fine if you disagree, I welcome that. I’m just old fashioned and was raised to think differently. To ME (Please note I’m not making a grand statement about humanity as a whole) I believe there are certain problems that arise from moving on too quickly.

I’m sure

Nope, too soon. It’s none of my business and I’m glad they’re all happy but all the hair stands on the back of my neck when this happens

Longterm decisions about your gender? That’s not exactly realistic. I was a sophomore in college at 18. Like most people, my gender matches my sex, I always knew I was a girl, and had no problem with it. Maybe I’m taking you too literally/seriously?

Yeah...18 is a little late, don’t ya think?

Yes, exactly. The child’s biological sex is most likely one of the standard two. That is different from gender, and the sex is what goes on the birth certificate. Acting like it doesn’t exist or can be wished away is silly and possibly harmful to the mental health of the child.

You know the best way to not force gender roles, expectations and stereotypes on a kid?? By simply not doing it. It’s that simple. This whole thing feels like a self-indulgent attention grab on the part of the parent. What are they really accomplishing? Not a whole lot.

How do you think this child will be treated by other children, teachers, and the like as a “they” when they didn’t themselves choose to be a they?

their adult mental gender

People can perform gender however they like. But that child, like all of us, is a biological male or female, and there’s no getting around that. Don’t like gender? Stop performing gender roles.

I’m so right there with you. I’m getting pretty tired of this “gender is harmful” nonsense. Yes, let’s get rid of negative stereotypes about gender. But we don’t need to get rid of gender all together. There are things that I, as a biological female, will and have experienced that no man or trans woman will ever

Watch out I once got into an argument with a guy wearing a skirt in my Feminist Theory class in college while reading Judith Butler’s “Gender Trouble” about this.

all birth certificates are non-gender specific.

ALL OF THEM.

they list sex. stop purposefully conflating the two to make points.

I actually think this is silly and super performative on the mom’s part. Acknowledging your baby’s apparent biological sex doesn’t mean gender norms or even a gender has to be forced on them. If everything looks standard down below, as the vast majority of genitals do, you can tell what sex the kid is with great

No gender assigned for clearly physically non-binary childen? Awesome! Far, far better than decades of infant “random” reassignment surgery.

That baby still has a sex though

Your every post on this topic is 100% correct.

It wasn’t gratuitous. It was directly from the book. Except the book disgustingly made it a non-POV character and it was all about Theon’s redemption saving a girl everyone forgot about from the first book. All of those chapters are how tortured poor Reek is having to watch a girl being raped by dogs.

True Detective 3 should be about figuring out what happened in True Detective 2.

On the flip side, people were hyercritical when Whitney stopped being able to reach those high notes (I think her voice was quite rich to the end so I won’t say she lost her voice.) And are critical of Mariah now for her lessening range.
