The Peanut Gallery? It should be something that evokes heckling.

Yeah, I figured it was worth writing out a polite response (and it helped me clarify some ideas about comedy theory). It didn't do much good, but that's life.

Well, that's why I started by laying out a foundation for how sarcasm works, then analyzed the sarcasm in question and finally proceeded, in the final section, to describe how this instance of sarcastic racism could potentially be funny to a non-racist. It's all there in what I wrote; specifically, the answer lies in

Kawaii as Ditka.

She, I believe, and I think that might be a harsh judgement of JEng. I think that the style requires interpretation, but the content of her posts is largely not that different from a lot of the stuff that gets posted on here (aside from the horrific backstory).

Why would sarcasm ever be funny? I think that the most prominent school of thought that I've heard about how humour works is that it's based on surprise and reversal of expectations. That's why jokes are less funny when you've already heard them, for instance, or why people consider predictability to be a negative

If memory serves, it's a good one.

The MYOF entry about it is still great. It ends with Rabin doing laps in the otherwise-empty theatre in order to at least get some exercise in.

I always liked Auf Der Mar. Glad to hear that she's doing exactly what she wants to do.

I'm honestly not sure. I was too young to care about that as a kid and I haven't looked it up since. I just know that it was a hit among my family and some of my friends. It might be one of those things that was seen by lots of people but was too expensive to make its budget back.

Before I had heard of the term, I saw a thread on Facebook where a friend of mine (who identifies as a lesbian) was disagreeing with some people in a feminism discussion group. They were talking about transwomen really being men with fetishes trying to infiltrate their spaces, while my friend was (fairly gently)

Stars aren't as important as they once were. For one thing, the youngest generation barely seems aware of who they are if they're not on Youtube. For another thing, they're increasingly being put into roles that rely less on things that are particular about their images and more on what amounts to animation (be it

That said, I sold it to my mother and her boyfriend when I was visiting and we were deciding what to see at the dollar theatre as "same guy who made The Fifth Element", so Besson's name does still carry some cachet that way.

Dear The Internet,

Joy to a few, resigned tolerance at best for many others. If one intends to come up with a fun name for something, one should use some creativity and not just tired, pre-chewed, readymade, weak whimsy. Memes are terrible excuses for humour and this Boaty McISpendAllDayOnReddit bullshit was never funny to me even

Musician's earplugs are the key. Basically, you just get earplugs with a lower decibel reduction

Just as you say that it's not like drones are going to uninvented, it's similarly true that they'll be used for non-military killing. Look at the commercial drones beginning to be used for deliveries, for example, or even the consumer-focused remote control quadcopters available at electronics stores. Just think of

Man, this movie is a fucking riot. The theme song is pretty great, if I recall correctly.

Fear of Music

As far as the endless amount of blues songs on old records go, it's demographic. The people making those records were the right age to go crazy for the blues early in their lives. That sort of thing is formative for a musician. For them, playing blues was part and parcel of playing rock. For the kids who were
