Update: I just realized the program at fault may be Chomp SMS. The home screen icon popped up after using Chomp, which I had recently updated. I realized the permissions changed to include Write and Read Browser's History and Bookmarks among other things.

I just experienced the described behavior with a Search icon being added to my home screen that goes to a suspicious Google type search page, however I haven't installed any of the mentioned apps and for that matter haven't installed any apps that aren't your typical mainstream apps (Go Launcher, Chomp, Yelp,…

I imagine it is because the article mentions that the software is installed on Blackberry and Nokia smartphones as well.

I've found that in areas where I repeatedly turn the lights on/off (ie the bathroom), CFLs tend to have shorter lifespans than traditional incandescent bulbs.
