I’m fine with toleration. People are allowed to be interested in different things! But going to an article about, say, hot dogs, and commenting “I don’t care about hot dogs?” If that’s the case, why read the article? Why comment? 

Quite often “I don’t care” turns into active hostility at the first sign of difference, and “I don’t care what you are as long as you’re invisible” gets right at that double bind mentioned in the article.
