He’s the richest man in history. Commrade Nolan, therefore, hates his fucking guts. Nothing complex about this.
Your lack of understanding vis-a-vis the US and Texas systems of taxation is, without a doubt, the best thing about this comment section. Nice job being both ignorant and verbose, holmes!
Competition - ever heard of it? I know it doesn’t fit into the socialist utopian agenda that has worked so incredibly well for rich and poor alike since 1917, but if there’s one additional HQ being awarded and 20 competitors for it, you’d better be offering a sweet deal or you aren’t going to be the one graced. You’re…
You understand that people - professionals or not - pay income, property, and other taxes that go to supporting the community, do you not? I’m not a math major or anything, but I strongly suspect that the tax revenue generated from those new professionals outweighs the tax revenue that would have been generated by…
Excellent counter-point! Your ridiculous take is ridiculous, you’re called out on it, and you immediately go ad hominem. Typical.
He’s not going to have a chance to kill himself. Child molestors don’t last long in prison. If he’s alive in 5 years it will be a miracle.
Good lord you folks hate money! One thing I wish would die in 2018 is the myth that communism works. How this newest generation can’t understand that virtually every communist country has failed (China, which isn’t really communist anymore) is the last-man-standing, yet 2017 has been the year of “Bring Communism to…
Seriously? You couldn’t name 10 players in the hall of fame? Are you a child laborer in Eastern Europe?
Carlos Beltran is a baseball player. He should be in Cooperstown because he was one of the best at playing baseball. His not being inducted wouldn’t be the greatest snub of all time (Jim Rice belongs in the Hall!), but it would be in the top 10. I loved watching him play.
Jesus H. Christ. No.
Y’all remember David Boies is the lawyer who represented Al Gore in the 2000 presidential election, right?
“Of all the players who helped the Astros hoist
edtheir first franchise championships . . .”
I have two sons, and had the exact same reaction as you. I hope that I have never been any of the men in this story, but more than that I am determined that my sons will never be.
Thank you, Hannah, for this post. I hope it does as much good as I think it should. I sympathize and/or agree with almost everything you’ve written here, but not this:
The problem with that is the wealthy assholes who own the team have a lot less to lose than the rich guys playing the game. Or rather, more to lose, but more ability to take the hit in the near term. Either way, I just don’t think it’s a good idea for the players to walk out, and the owners know that.
This is the whitest of white things anyone ever does. I loathe these “I live in Anglo-Saxon Bend” asshats.
As a middle-aged white man who graduated from A&M (not in a frat of any kind), lives in Dallas (actual Dallas, not some nondescript suburb), loves Dre, Pac, Jay, and Biggie (also Ghetto Boyz, UGK, Z-Ro, et al.) but does, in fact, hunt every year . . . this list is perfect! You just described 85% of the white folks…
On one hand, “an extra 5% off or low income earner means sacrificing something essential!” On the other hand, “H&R Block is only a couple hundred bucks!” You must walk around in circles a lot . . .
Semi-related: I was recently in Japan (Kamakura) and, while talking to an elderly gentleman, a school kid (mid-teens?) came up to me and asked if he could take a picture - more specifically, a selfie - with me. I obliged, and that was that. What I hadn’t really prepared for, though, was that this would open the door…
