That’s a jezebel screw up- I never read your post above and was responding to someone else. My mistake or Jezebel’s mistake

I wrote screenplays, I didn’t write for TV, so I don’t have showrunner stories. I mean, I’m up here on jezebel.com, it’s clear I’m not working in hollywood. But I stand by my statement- when my scripts didn’t sell as a white man, I could blame no one but myself.
But I HAVE had the experience of managing DJs and

Ok my mistake.

Are you comparing slavery with someone getting sentenced for mugging someone? Because the slaves were innocent and the people incarcerated are not innocent.

Is there an audience for such a show?

Not sure what a “box office film” is because it’s not a hollywood term, but you do know youtube exists and is a venue for anything you want and if there’s an audience for these movies they can be found on youtube, but just maybe, there’s no audience for these movies

I am sure that Perry will make a dozen such movies in his career. The question is- why aren’t audiences paying to see these movies?

Have you made one of these films? When I was 20 I wanted to see a film which reflected MY life, so I made one. Nothing is stopping you from making one.

I know he would have! I have a friend of a friend and let me tell you... people say MJ was trying to look like Diana Ross... try David Niven.

It should be considered a racist statement to call Straight Outta Compton a good movie.

agreed about Tesla, perhaps a lame example in the long run.
I worked with Spike on the distribution side of She’s Gotta Have It and his organization was going to change the world and I loved it. I come from a DIY film background. I failed to make it in hollywood but as a white man, I can’t blame anyone but myself. I

Ok, let me ask you this- did you talk to any members of the academy that voted for her for that reason? Geraldine page was not only great in a Trip To Bountiful, she was at the end of her career and a lot of people vote for actors on their way out- this certainly was the case for Don Ameche to win for Cocoon. Color

The academy happens not to be racist because the oscars are in fact diverse and the academy is run by a black woman- but you keep telling people that black woman is anti-black, it will make sense to some people but not to people who actually work in hollywood.
The productions I walked in on were way more diverse than

Except in the situations when it doesn’t do that... F Murray Abraham being a great example

Why hasn’t Oscar given its nod to Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, right? Oh wait, it totally did and won four oscars- what were you 12 when that happened?

Actually, no it isn’t. Let’s be honest with ourselves here. This thing is being helmed by Jada Pinkett Smith.

To quote my son’s friend- “My abuelita on my father’s side is from Portugal and moved to Brazil, we’re European” - Many, if not most, third generation Latino kids view themselves as white or European, not as a separate “race”- this may not be true in Los Angeles where Mexican American/Chicano pride separates Latinos

???

African-Americans are also disproportionately featured in Oscar wins. Which is something I’ve been trying to say- there is no diversity problem in hollywood- African American actors get more work than they are a percentage of US population

Benicio Del Toro is a white man of European descent.
