It’s a tough decision. On one side, you have 80 years of tradition, one of the most recognizable emblems in baseball, and tens of millions in merchandise sales.

It would be cheaper to do your thing. Hosting a pre-show game would add very little additional cost to the NBA event. You already have the building, the ushers, the concessions, etc etc. Compare that to the cost of renting a huge arena and filling it with staff, prepping it, etc in exchange for a few thousand sold

That’s a really good point! Tennis has a model that works, and almost nobody thinks of it as sexist even though the women play shorter “games” and almost always have the lead-in slot to the big men’s matches.

His proposal likely saves the NBA owners money (and keep in mind they do subsidize the money-losing WNBA). The cost of hosting an event in a huge arena and selling a few thousand tickets on average is almost surely less than making everything a pre-show for a NBA game.

ummm...the WNBA is a vestigal appendage of the NBA. The NBA attaches WNBA TV deals, WNBA season ticket packages, etc to the NBA versions of these things that people actually want. That is the only reason the WNBA still exists.

College sports have a built-in fanbase. People cheer for the college’s “brand”, regardless of the sport. Same goes with the Olympics - if they tell us that the USA is counting on women’s handball to give us the medal advantage over China, we suddenly start to care about women’s handball.

Not true. “I need to run from the shitstorm or else I will get covered in shit” has the same appeal it did 50 years ago. Being covered in shit hasn’t gotten any more attractive to a politician.

You SHOULD like them. They’re $500! In fact, you should LOVE them, 2x as much as any other shoe on the planet.

If you are paying attention to it, you can easily pee in a public men’s bathroom without touching anything with your hands. You pull out your junk touching only your pants/underwear, then use a forearm for the flush, or don’t flush at all. If I do this, there is absolutely no reason to wash my hands, other than

Yeah man - why didn’t he just PAY for his college like all the other athletes do?

What Ball is asking is crazy. He clearly is terrible at branding, AND will be a humongous pain to work with because he doesn’t acknowledge he’s terrible at branding. I have zero confidence in the Lonzo shoe being remotely decent if LaVar Ball leads the development of it, and that’s clearly what he will be doing.

OK - I’m convinced now that Jumblebums is a troll. Nobody can be this big of a douchebag, right?

People do office pranks on each other ALL THE TIME. Oh wait, I’m sorry - I mean they bully each other by fucking with each other’s minds ceaselessly, destroying productivity and peace of mind.

omfg dude. You sound like you’d be great fun at a party.

Exactly. They have found a weakness in the left, in that they can’t seem to tolerate people from the far right. And liberals don’t seem to realize that discriminating against extreme conservatives is the same thing as any other discrimination - it’s wrong and unconstitutional. So liberals fall into the trap, act

Public universities aren’t in the business of deciding who gets to speak and who doesn’t. In fact, they are specifically banned from being in that business.

Almost everything about this post is simply dead wrong. No, you cannot decide speech is “inflammatory” and then ban it. This country is based off inflammatory speech. Berkeley is ground zero of inflammatory speech in the 60's and 70's. Inflammatory speech is sacred.

Hate speech IS protected speech!

This is insane. You seriously think a public university can “can set parameters around speech expectations”? This directly contradicts literally the first line of the first amendment of the Bill of Rights. Unbelievable.

I suspect you would have an entirely different opinion on this if Black Lives Matter were about to hold a rally at the University of Alabama, and the rally was cancelled at the last minute under dubious circumstances.
