That is the truth. Those of us who came of age in the eighties were basically free-range.

uggghhhhhhh. as someone who used to get bullied, it makes me queasy to hear that. at least my parents were sympathetic even if they weren’t sure what to do.
So maybe it was less that women found him charming than that other men found him so. That makes sense.
This breaks my heart. I’m an old mom and while I won’t #notalloldmoms you, I would never brush off my kid’s troubles like this. My kid has the trifecta of issues at her red-state high school: Asian, Jewish and a Lefty. She’s a little dark and uses scorn and eye-rolls to get by. She was wearing a t-shirt that said,…
True for sure. If I remember correctly (and I may not) that's how they finally found him...a few women who were creeped the fuck out and refused a ride or whatever. Also true that women are taught not to refuse chivalry (at least from a decently-dressed white guy).
Even if he committed his crimes today and was still on the loose, that says more about our available technology and police departments than it does about him or any other suspect being exceptional.
The guy that intervened was having exactly none of Karen’s bullshit and good for him.
I fully support throwing the book at these fuckers, flying is unpleasant enough without these stupid assholes lashing out at the people who’s job it is to keep you safe and comfortable while you’re stuffed in a metal tube with a bunch…
People are fascinated by these killers because they exist beyond the bounds of “normal” behavior and we want to know why. We want to maybe reassure ourselves that we’re not evil, they are monsters but not us, no siree. There’s something wrong with them...but we’re ok. We want to think there is some hard boundary…
What I can’t stand about the mythologizing of serial killers is the prevailing belief that they must be “special” to have been able to kill x number of people or a real genius to be able to get away with it.
Yeah that’s the rub dirt on it method
I honestly don’t even think she’s that great of an actress. She was good on Glee because she was basically playing herself. But the few other things I saw her in, I couldn’t unsee Rachel Berry.
That’s because Margaret chose to enlist. In contrast, Frank was an open coward, & the other non-COs were all draftees.
I’ve been around forever. I started my band because we were really influenced by ska, which was a movement that happened in the late ‘70s, and it was really all about people coming together.”
I think it’s probably mostly because she’s very much a musical theater type. Like Idina Menzel. It’s like there’s no point in hiring her unless she’s also going to sing so it limits her options.

It’s impossible to get through to Gwen Stefani types when the sense of entitlement and the conviction in their goodness is so strong. She truly believes her rules were the “unifying” rules. Despite the evidence that all that “learning, sharing, and growing from each other” only served her. In her mind, she was just a…
Yeah, not at all. He has the arc of “oh it turns out I’m asshole because I’m so insecure and fucked up”
I think you’re thinking of another “teen boys try to have sex before graduation” movie because I’m pretty sure the 3rd character, Fogell, has fully consensual sex with a girl. It’s still a gross-out comedy, male-centered movie that objectifies women, doesn’t pass the Bechdel test and would never get greenlit in 2021.
I agree with this, but I also generally think that “that’s just comedy, man” is still a cop-out when discussing why jokes haven’t aged well.
