Uhhh.....a minimal ability to act?
Uhhh.....a minimal ability to act?
That’s suggesting Ryan Gosling doesn’t have comedic chops, which is simply not true. Hell, he delivered one of the best comedic performances of last year even.
I agree with you. Gal Gadot was pretty great as Wonder Woman but for some reason her actual acting abilities outside of that role are questionable at best.
Plenty of incredible actors who’ve worked the language barrier but still been amazing, even before they had a full grasp on English. Marion Collitard, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlize Theron, Monica Belluchi, ect.
I’m just remembering how this ferociously awful Kinja system was developed by post-Soviet Hungarians in Hungary by Nick Denton because that’s where disgraced and defeated Gawker founder Nick Denton’s family is from. A proprietary format they “developed” and is such a piece of nasty bad shit. Kinja is the fucking…
Without the aid of a fantastic director like Jenkins, Gadot is basically a charisma vacuum in terms of acting. She seems to be quite charming in real life, but when she tries to act beyond kind of exaggerated facial expressions she is the most wooden, dull person to watch ever.
holy shit i said the same thing! she’s great. i have no idea what ppl expect of her.
I really never thought she was much of an actress either. I don’t know if it’s because she’s working in her second language or what (although even then that never stopped Christoph Waltz or Marion Cotillard), but in both the DCU and the Fast and Furious Franchise, she never really stood out as being particularly…
Re: the headline here: Gadot just isn’t that great of an actress? I’ve only seen her in a few movies but she just leaves no impression. I feel like saying she’s bland would be overestimating her...Just the way she says lines always sounds like she’s reading them off a script or something. I’ve never seen her do…
Yes, that ship was awesome. It totally made up for the tractor beam effect at the beginning, which was a lot less awesome.
I was pleasantly surprised by the future-alien design. Sure it was Matrix Aliens flying a Dune ship, but hey, great mash-up. Hope they return.
I was kind of confused by this show at first, but I think they’re finding their stride with the sci-fi and humor mix. It’s becoming more than “Family Guy in Space.” The whole bit with the leg-amputating practical joke is pure Data-throwing-Beverly-in-the-water hijinks, just taken to the ridiculous Seth McFarlane…
For its first four episodes, The Orville was like breathing in thin atmosphere
“Pria was able to pull off her phone cord-wrapped catsuit with aplomb, however.”
I have no comment on the episode itself, but I just want to praise Charlize Theron some more. I can’t think of another woman that beautiful and glamorous who is willing to take such ridiculous (this, Arrested Development) and brutal (Mad Max, Monster) roles.
As to “what the show is trying to be” — a space drama with comedic overtones, vice versa, or something else entirely—I don’t place a high priority on wanting or needing a finite answer. There were dark, serious episodes of Farscape, there were laughfests, and there was everything in between. That variety and…
So do we really think this show “strains against its FX budget,” or does it look a little cheesy because it deliberately wants to look a retro?
I just keep comparing this to Treks past, and I’m not sure that I actually like the Orville yet, but these episodes are all probably stronger than where any other trek was at this point (save TOS).
I get the feeling that if I ever met Charlize Theron in real life I’d faint or something.
“The main thing we learned [on Batman v Superman] is that people don’t like to see their heroes deconstructed,” said Snyder. “They like seeing them in all their glory… I think what’s really great is where we’re going is kind of what the audience is wanting. We just had to take the characters from somewhere to bring…
