The Orville - Will be giving it a shot and time to see if it settles. Mostly interested for the movie star guests and directors they’ve managed to wrangle, which should be interesting either way.

If you apply that to a lot of tv shows you miss out on a lot of gold that gets sifted further in. Bojack and Brookyn Nine Nine for example. Massively shaky starts.

It took me a good few episodes to warm to B99. A friend introduced me and I remember saying, “Eh I’m not sure I’m into this. I don’t like where this Rosa and Boyle thing is going either, it’s cliche as hell”.

I find that it makes me value their content less too. They are still writing at a level of quality that is far and away above the rest of the Gawker-corpse collective they’ve been lumped in with, but because it’s jammed awkwardly into this hideously unprofessional layout, I’m finding that my mind is just not absorbing…

The trailers all look good though. And the sheer amount of industry talent involved should be enough to get people excited. I find McFarlane pretty hit or miss, but this may be the first truly sincere thing he’s ever made, so I’m hopeful.

Right? There is an A list movie star guest starring in this as well as an excellent popular movie director doing the pilot episodes. Either the budget on this thing was huge, or MacFarlane just has a lot of really cool friends.

There are some really excellent people attached to this thing though. Jon freakin Favreau (very successful current movie director) doing the pilot episodes, as well as Star Trek alum directors Brannon Braga and Jonathan Frakes doing various others.

I’m always so confused when people trash the new movies and then say that Tokyo Drift was the best and their favorite. I’m disqualifying you from having an opinion worth listening to on this series if you think it peaked with Tokyo fucking Drift.
