Addition to the genre? Other games have had hang gliders. It’s not a new mechanic. It just wasn’t added as an automatic feature since it didn’t fit into the game universe. That’s also the case in almost all open world games. Almost all those collectibles people decry for cluttering up the screen are not actually needed. Certain story missions, sure, but unless that’s not the case in BotW or SMO, then the criticism is out of place.
