A Black Mage that can cast Haste will slay everything. I personally like equipping a Chemist with White Mage healing and reviving spells. If you manage to get Holy, though, you will rule the game.

I started a new playthrough of Demon's Souls. I got to the boss at the end of the tutorial, before sadness at the prospect of re-dying infinitely set in.

Sucks the release date got pushed back a month, too.
