I have been with Progressive long enough to have ‘Large Accident Forgiveness’ - and that has been the major reason I stick with them (a ‘get out of jail free’ card on no rate hike). Is this faulty thinking?

Alton Brown includes tumeric in his ‘Granny’s Creamed Corn’ recipe specifically as a coloring agent - so I wouldn’t be shocked if it dyed your face funny.
Dick - I love your articles (and the Vitals blog)!!! - but, I reject the idea that on a site like Lifehacker your average user group isn’t checking forums and looking to optimize their experience with consumer products!
tl;dr - I eat back my calories if I’m hungry or want to have a treat, but don’t make habit out of it.
Also, a big CONGRATS to everyone in this thread on their weight-loss success so far! It is encouraging to meet people who are on the same journey. It’s definitely a ‘mindset/lifestyle’ shift and not a temporary ‘diet’.
tl;dr - I use the target net calorie goal based on demographics and weight loss goal (2lb/week)
I completely agree - however, as someone who uses a Fitbit Charge HR and MyFitnessPal in tandem (with the BMR calc set to that aforementioned ‘sedentary’ level) - I have lost over 20 lbs in approximately three months! That’s a healthy 1-2 lb per week drop. The key for me has been a combination of diet AND exercise.…
For a while, I was entering my daily multivitamin via bar code into MyFitnessPal - but I have since stopped. Should daily multivitamins help someone who is ‘tracking oriented’ feel more comfortable that they are hitting their nutrient goals (beyond the macros which are easier to track)?
Yes - I would say as a general rule of thumb that one is more than enough for one person. It would be a pretty big calorie bomb to eat two of them. Sometimes I use extra sardines on mine - but the base serving is plenty!
Sure thing! Here you go...
I have struggled with this my entire life. In addition to the book callout in the article, I highly recommend the book “Too Perfect: When Being in Control Gets Out of Control” - it’s an ongoing struggle - but you can in fact see your need for perfection wane over time (mindfulness is KEY). Also, making mistkaes on…
I am a HUGE Good Eats fan - and this is one of my absolute favorite episodes! I have eaten the sardine sandwich from this episode a bazillion times! Thanks for featuring this on Lifehacker!
I think this is essentially a second order way of telling someone to do heart-rate training. As new runners who haven’t developed a base of cardio yet run too hard starting out - they increase their heart rate into the anaerobic zone. This means that they are now exceeding their ability to effectively intake oxygen…
Here’s a shocking secret about weight loss that regularly goes unnoticed: if you’re not tracking every calorie that you eat, you’re not really “managing” your weight. Crazy, right?*
If money is no object - these are insane! Built in GPS, can play MP3s wirelessly to bluetooth headphones... so no cords and no bulky object to hold onto or strap to your arm.
I've lost 12 lbs in the last 30 days through a combination of my Fitbit Charge HR and using the MyFitnessPal food tracking. I think I would rather pay more for the Charge HR than the regular Charge because the HR stuff is really cool (if only directional). The point of all of these tools is mindfulness though. I think…

Bob's email, Drew's awesome response, and your touching comment are a trifecta of why humanity is not completely in the shitter just yet. Thank you for giving me something positive to carry into my weekend. And good luck to all of you.
So again, no, we do not all start out at level one, there are many body types and they all have their special quirks.
Your specific comment about genetics being a key barrier to the topic of the article - "Leveling Up" - is directly addressed in the article I linked you to. There are various citations of studies contained therein which should alleviate your concerns about them being "Gawker's Opinion". I apologize for not giving…
