In my initial read of the article, the embedded Tweets did not load properly.

Keeping in mind that I agree with the thesis statement, “The New York Times really fucked this one up”, those are some pretty nasty tweets. You really went well out of your way to cherry pick the less vile ones, to the point that it calls your objectivity on the matter into question.

You’re describing basic human decency as something that one has to be raised to have, I disagree about as much as possible.

Is it entirely satisfying if there’s a 16-year-old out there right now who will be a pro athlete in a decade, and who refrains from tweeting a gay joke because he considers the possibility that it might embarrass him once he gets famous? No. You’d prefer the kid instead internalize reasons not to tweet the gay joke…

I mean, I get how fucking annoying our dream team of Deadspin writers+commenters is. And there is a lot of compelling content that runs counter to our self important slacktivism out there. But what the fuck compels a person to read that drivel?

Why would this be a surprise? No amount of disgusting action will stop the commenters here who (I would assume, based on their words) are among the most well informed and active.
