Tap the Steam Button, go to configure controller, community, and choose the highest rated community controller profile (It’s almost always the best option). People figure this stuff out so you don’t have to. If you want to fiddle with the endless amount of customization, go for it, if not, it takes about five seconds…

As an owner of an Xbox 360 controller and an Xbox One controller I can tell you that, since it’s release, I’ve been using the Steam Controller exclusively. The only reason I’d ever pick up my Xbox One controller is for the d-pad. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go back to a controller without dual-stage triggers…
